FAQ
-
What can I expect during my first session?
The first session is less about having the right answers and more about getting a feel for each other. We'll talk about what brought you in, what you're hoping to get out of therapy, and any questions or hesitations you have. I'll share a bit about how I work. Think of it as a real conversation rather than an intake form.
-
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes. We'll talk about frequency based on what you're working on and what fits your life — most people start weekly and adjust from there.
-
Do you offer online therapy?
Yes, I offer teletherapy sessions to ensure you receive the support you need, no matter where you are located in California.
-
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. I am in-network with Aetna, United Healthcare, and Optum for telehealth sessions. Oscar members can also access my services through the Optum Behavioral Health network. For other insurance plans, I'm considered an out-of-network provider. I can provide a superbill — a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Reimbursement rates vary depending on your plan and deductible.
If you want to check your out-of-network benefits before we meet, try calling the member services number on your insurance card and asking: "What is my reimbursement rate for out-of-network mental health services, and what deductible do I need to meet first?"
-
Do you offer sliding scale appointments?
I offer a limited number of reduced-fee spots for clients who need them. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis and we can talk about it during the free consultation. If I'm not able to accommodate your budget, I'm happy to connect you with sliding scale options or community mental health resources in the area.
-
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are charged the full session fee. I know life happens — if something comes up, just reach out as soon as you can.
-
Do I need to have a specific problem to start therapy?
Not at all. Many of my clients come in knowing something is off but not quite being able to name it — they're anxious, stuck, or quietly disconnected, but they couldn't tell you exactly why. You don't need to arrive with a diagnosis or a clear sense of what you want to work on. Figuring that out is often part of the work itself.
-
How long will therapy take?
Honestly, it depends. Some people come in with a specific situation they want to work through and feel ready to wrap up after a few months. Others are interested in longer-term work that goes deeper. I don't have a one-size-fits-all answer, but I do think it's important that we stay oriented toward real progress — and that you always feel like you understand what we're working on and why.
